The SilverOaks Montessori School was established in 2004 and is situated on a 324 hectare farm in Heidelberg, Gauteng. It is an authentic Montessori pre-primary and primary school that follows the Montessori principles.
It is a beautifully fully equipped Montessori school with all the equipment been set out in a unique thoughtful way.It is a vibrant, colourful and spacious environment where individuality, independence, self discipline, love of nature and the world we live in is respected, understood, loved and nurtured.
The farm is a working farm, harvesting erogrostic as well as all the usual farm animals; a herd of Inguni cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, ponies and chickens. The children are continuously interacting with the animals on the farm, as well as witnessing and handling newborn animals. The children experience sensorial walks which gives them the opportunity to explore the farm collecting and learning about all the different bugs, plants and animals. There is a very spacious and secure adventure playground with lots of playground equipment, including a vegetable garden and outside playing/eating area.
The school is registered with The Education Department, Montessori International (London) as well as in the process of being registered with ISASA. The premises also provide facilities for children’s parties, holiday camps, craft weeks, holiday care and after care. The school also offers extra murals that include horse riding, cross country, music, playball and ballet.
SilverOaks Montessori school’s mission is committed to enhancing the development of children in all aspects, regardless of their circumstances, thus providing the foundations for competent, independent and valuable individuals, who will become assets to society as they mature.
“….to influence society, we must turn our attention to childhood, for it is the little ones who are building mankind, and they work only on the materials we give them….” ‘Maria Montessori
The Absorbent Mind’.
It is with this in mind that children will be given the freedom necessary for exploration and discovery while promoting an understanding and acceptance of others without prejudice. They will be encouraged to develop their given talents and interests to reach their full potential within this child centered environment that is both stimulating and supportive.
